The oldest of the Matlin girls, Katie always felt like she had to take care of Maya. She was constantly checking up on her younger sister and making sure that she was alright, even when she knew her sister was perfectly fine. After their brother’s untimely death, she felt like she had to keep an eye on her sister even more… Most of the time, she could be found in the newspaper office, working away at the keyboard, trying to keep her mind off of things. She had always tried to keep her head down and avoid trouble, but trouble seemed to come straight for the Matlin bunch, and she couldn’t do much to stay out of it. Katie is a perfectionist. Everything she does must be done with precision and care, or it isn’t worth doing at all. Uncomfortable in her own skin, she turns to others to make herself feel beautiful, even if she goes right back to feeling like crap after it’s all said and done.
